Meet Your Mentor
A lot of us are in it for the money, and that shouldn’t be taboo to say out loud.
My name is Lauren Ross, and I don’t actually care about digital marketing, curbing corporate jargon, or brand management — and yet, I spent years of my life obsessing over these things in the course of my career. I was scared of where I would end up in life if I wasn’t obsessed. I felt fake and unaligned and like I was giving way too much energy to work, but at least I had paychecks and bonuses!
During the first part of my career, I found it hard to give myself the grace and encouragement I was giving to my employees. Work swallowed my brain and made me miserable at all hours. I encountered situations that were not okay and didn’t speak up. Needless to say, it all impacted my health.
I didn’t have a boss like me, so I had to mentor and unstick myself. I quit a big job, took a sabbatical to complete a novel, and did some serious work (shout out to the amazing Robin Clark) on boundary setting. I reflected on my values, my relationship to work, and what I would regret later if I kept letting work get in the way of my life.
Then, I went back to my tech career to see if I could put what I learned into practice. And lo and behold, my work life became a PART of my life, and the financial fuel for my life. Not my life itself.
Now, I’m making it my work to share what I’ve learned with other professional women.
In the last ten years, I’ve studied with teachers in embodiment, relationships, ancestral healing, astrology, feminism, and creativity. I’ve learned a lot about how to infuse an average work week with what makes you actually tick. Because, surprise surprise, a lot of us are doing this stuff for the money in order to do the things we actually love.
My name is Lauren Ross, I and I actually care about writing books, traveling with my friends, going to as many Michelin starred restaurants as I can with my husband, donating to UNICEF, bougie candles, and making sure my son has everything he needs to be able to pursue his own passions.
My name is Lauren Ross, and I was always in it for the money. Along the way, I helped a lot of great customers and employees who were in it for the money too. And I feel totally good about that.
